‘What is Life: The Movie’ – MS expert makes movie about life’s deep questions
Eminent multiple sclerosis and immunology expert, Dr. Howard Weiner, made a full-length documentary move about life’s deep eternal questions – Is there a God? Why is there evil? Why are we here? Prof Weiner shares his life wisdom:
– You wrote, produced and directed a full feature documentary film titled “What is Life? The Movie”. It’s a topic that most humans are interested in. Could you please tell a little bit more about that movie and what is the approach that you took? I’m sure that this movie will be of great interest to many of our viewers. Yes, so I was a philosophy major in college and very interested in philosophical questions. I’m very interested in the brain, so I study all the physiology and structural aspects of the brain. But there’s some questions you can’t answer in the laboratory. Is there a God? Why is there evil? Why are we here? And then you have to turn to the arts. So to answer the questions or to address the questions, I made a movie. And I traveled throughout the world and asked people these questions. Now, the purpose of my movie is not to tell what the answers are. Because every person has to, in their life, come up with the answers. And there are different answers. So in the movie I talked to different people and it raises the questions. So anybody who watches the movie, will think about the questions in a new way. And it can help them to deal with their lives and how they view the big questions… – Big questions are clearly very important to ask in life, so it’s often in the question, not necessarily the answer. – That’s correct! And it’s an individual thing. Every person who’s here, when you were born, you didn’t ask big questions, right? You were a baby. Then you were two years old and then all of a sudden you got older, you discovered evil, you saw death… What am I supposed to do in my life? And every person needs to find a certain peace in their life. About what they want to do, how they want to interact with the world. And I think that’s everybody’s journey. So everybody has to deal with the big questions. So I made another movie, it’s called “The Last Poker Game”. And this is a narrative film with the Academy Award winner Martin Landau and Paul Sorvino. So we’re done filming, it was at the Tribeca Film Festival, and should be in theaters in half a year. So I hope people will watch that and hopefully it will be available online. – Absolutely! Professor Weiner, thank you very much for this conversation! We’ve covered very important topics in multiple sclerosis and other neurological diseases, and we’re looking forward to maybe return to you in the future!- Okay, thank you very much! – Thank you!
