Let’s talk about mechanical ventilation. So you know media almost equates the access to mechanical ventilation with the ability to cure COVID-19 Coronavirus infections. So everybody’s talking about ventilators, ventilators, ventilators. But that’s not true. Many people still die after being two, three weeks on ventilation, breathing support, in an ICU. So have you heard of any statistics of how many patients with Coronavirus COVID-19 survive once they have to be ventilated? Because the treatment of cytokine storm syndrome can potentially help people who are already severely ill, but it’s best applied before they require mechanical ventilation. I’m not a pulmonologist or an intensivist. The data on the death rate on ventilation for COVID-19 Coronavirus is all over the map. And ultimately we’ll learn from this we’ll figure out what that number is. And it may be different in different environments or different settings. But it’s pretty all over the map. I’ve heard horrific numbers as high as 80%. Once you end up on the ventilator, it’s unlikely you’re going to come off alive. I Don’t think it’s going to be that high, and I pray it’s not that high. And, and as low as maybe 30% or 20%. So that’s a pretty broad range. It may be, you know, what you’re health was before that, to contribute to that, or how much of it was the cytokine storm or acute respiratory distress syndrome from other causes. Intensivists have their protocols for acute respiratory distress. They know when they should, for example, place the patient’s prone. And that seems to be helping, particularly again with the ARDS or acute respiratory distress associated with COVID-19 Coronavirus. But we do hear of patients who come off ventilators, and that’s encouraging. Not that you’d want to get that far. And there are some implications of being on a ventilator for a long time too. It’s not trivial. You’re not necessarily just back to good health at that point. But yeah, I mean, if you can avoid Get into the ventilator. I think that would be awesome. And not only just for saving lives and morbidity. But we are in a crisis of not having enough ventilators. We have a crisis of not having enough healthcare workers and in places where we need them. And I think if we could keep patients off the ventilator by any means, not that we should keep them off when they should be on a ventilator. But if we have a means to make them better, to the point that they don’t require it, then that will save a lot of resources in this process and save lives. Not only the individual lives but just as society as a whole.
